Poor rainfall between March and May - supposed to be the wettest months of the year - has affected the production of food and livestock for many households throughout the northern and coastal regions of Kenya. The situation has also worsened by increasing food prices driven by the increase in fuel costs and general inflation which continue to erode the purchasing power of individuals and families. The IFRC has launched an appeal for CHF 8 512 016 to support the Kenya Red Cross Society to assist 649 175 beneficiaries for nine months (to be completed June 2015). The KRCS will scale up interventions to affected communities focusing on improving access to safe water (human consumption and livestock) essential health and nutrition services support to school feeding programmes and support to agricultural livelihood activities.
