The preparation phase of the project “Child-sensitive social protection in the Boucle du Mouhoun, North, Center-North and East regions : aimed to set up preliminary activities for the implementation of a major child-sensitive social protection project. The approach encompassed development of cash transfer tools, elaboration of a child sensitivity package, access to basic services on health, nutrition and WASH as key strategies to address child poverty in Burkina Faso. TFour areas of intervention were concerned :• Conduct a child poverty and profiling analysis with a sound methodology to dissect di-mensions of child poverty and deprivations as well as the structural causes of their vul-nerability in the regions of East, North and Centre-North• Ensure the targeting and registering of poor and vulnerable population in the single na-tional registry following the consensual targeting methodology based on the principle of subsidiarity promoted by the National Social Protection Policy ; • Build technical and institutional capacities (training, setting up of communal social ser-vices) of 15 communes targeted to host a child-sensitive social protection project ;• Develop child-sensitive tools to encourage better investments aiming at addressing the needs and rights of children at the household and community levels. The main results include the following :• A mixed survey (quantitative and qualitative) was conducted to profile the multidimen-sional poverty of children in the Centre North, North and East regions according to the methodology applied in the Boucle du Mouhoun Region (annex 1), disaggregated by sex and gender, using both monetary and non-monetary approaches (deprivations according to dimensions : WASH, health, nutrition, education, etc.) ;• The poor and vulnerable population of the 15 communes were targeted and registered in the single registry for which data are being processed by the SP/CNPS ; • A "child-sensitive" package of modules was developed to encourage better investment in children’s needs and rights at the household and community levels (life skills module, gender sensitivity tool, specific investment for boys and girls, etc.) ;• The launch of the multidimensional poverty study conducted in the Boucle du Mouhoun in 2016 and the establishment of a working group at national level ;• The social services of the 15 targeted communes (government’s institutions providing social services) were provided with equipment to support the establishment of the na-tional single registry of poor and vulnerable people. The project has been implemented from 2017-12-01 to 2018-05-31.
