Résumé partiel
The negative effects of climate change, unsustainable practices of resource depletion and overreliance on diamond revenue are amongst the major challenges for Botswana’s sustainable development. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated poverty, inequality, and unemployment, exposing the limited capacities of Botswana’s health, education and social protection systems, and the urgent need to diversify the economic base from mining exports. This intervention promotes a just transition to a greener world of work, contributing towards a sustainable, inclusive, low-carbon and climate-resilient economic development in Botswana. It targets policy-makers, government officials, employers’ and workers’ organizations, academia and business development services through a systemic approach with gender-responsive interventions at macro, meso and micro levels. At the macro level, the expected result is the adoption of public policy measures supporting a just transition, accompanied by a tripartite action plan to develop a greener world of work. At the meso level, employers’ and workers’ organizations will strengthen their capacity to advocate for a just transition through social dialogue and participation in the implementation of the action plan
