Titre : Improve labour migration governance in Ethiopia to combat irregular migration

Résumé
The significant increase in irregular migration, mainly trafficking, combined with a significant number of reported cases of abuse and mistreatment of Ethiopian migrants and a temporary ban on low-skilled migrant workers going to the Middle East and Sudan introduced by the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) in 2013, have put migration at the forefront of Ethiopia’s agenda. This project aims at supporting the efforts of the Government and Civil Society in improving labour migration governance to better address migration challenges in the country and combat irregular migration. It also aims at sensitising migration-prone communities to enable them to take informed decisions about migration and to empower migrants to better protect their rights. Compared to 2013, an increased number of migrants are moving to the Middle East by irregular means. If the necessary support is not provided for these migrants, the risk of a significant increase in irregular migration is high. Considering the current situation of irregular migration, there is a need to support the government in putting in place an efficient and effective structure to govern labour migration and create the necessary awareness to better equip migrants and potential migrants to make informed decisions.
