Présentation
MFC Nyetaa is a Malian organisation working around energy and environmental issues. The organisation works also internationally on good governance, development of local economy and environmental protection. In the context of the strong and rising presence in Sikasso of both industrial and artisanal mining, the project, which entails a close cooperation with mayor Kalidou Togola of Finkolo, aims at the forming of a coalition of mayors around the issue of mining in Sikasso, whilst striving to come to more accountability concerning the mining. The objective of the coalition is to strengthening the municipalities in Sikasso’s capacity, through elements as training concerning land laws and mining code, aswell as through the enabling of discussion between different relevant actors, to defend a more peoples and nature’s led socio-economic local development in face of corporate extractivist intrests. The project allows for the laying of a basis for a franc dialogue, involving also in a non-violent way administrative authorities and companies. The coalition of mayors could come to function as a consultative structure concerning questions of mining. The issue of the mining at large is a very difficult debate in Mali. This project can be seen as a first important step towards opening that debate at large within the present existing realities. This debate can also come to draw strength from the work of other Siemenpuu partners as well as be a part of further Siemenpuu global dialogue.
