Présentation
Lack of trained midwives and absence of primary health care units jeopardize lives of many pregnant women in rural areas of Eastern Sudan. They often don ?t have a chance to see a doctor or visit a clinic during their pregnancy due to socioeconomic factors. The luckier ones will have an un-trained midwife in the village often with little or no knowledge on hygiene and maternal health. With poverty and poor infrastructure women also have little knowledge on family planning and child nutrition. Prevailing comp licating social traditions such as FGM worsen pregnant women ?s situation.Through the project 60 village midwives in Gadarif Kassala and Red Sea will be trained to improve reproductive health services at grassroots level and hence help reduce maternal deaths. The project will also benefit pregnant women in selected villages by raising communities ? knowledge on mother and child care family planning and HIV/AIDS.

Financement : Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
Budget  : 56 494 USD
