Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)

Titre : Safeguarding Food Security through Emergency Fertilizer and Wheat Production Assistance (Afghanistan)

Pays /Région : Afghanistan

Code projet : 21-RR-FAO-020

Durée : Project start : 14 Oct 2021 | Project end : 13 Apr 2022

Présentation
The key objective of this project is to protect the agricultural livelihoods of food-insecure marginal farming households from the adverse impacts of the ongoing drought, intensified conflict in recent months, lingering impacts of the COVID-19 shock, anticipated early start of the lean season and worsening of the existing food crisis in Afghanistan. The proposed activities are expected to result in the vulnerable marginal households to : (i) produce sufficient wheat to meet the households’ staple food consumption needs for one year, along with wheat straw as forage for livestock, thus safeguarding their food security ; (ii) protect their agriculture-livelihoods thus lowering the chances of these food-insecure marginal farmers resorting to negative coping actions and requiring further humanitarian support ; and (iii) start with their early recovery from the harsh adverse impacts of the drought and other recent shocks. This project focuses on providing this time-critical and season-sensitive emergency assistance to vulnerable marginal farmers. The project targets a total of 518,000 people.
