Résumé
This postgraduate thesis focuses on the monthly calculation of the water balance with the Thornthwaite method for 73 regions of Greece from data from meteorological stations of the National Meteorological Service (N.M.Y.) that are or were established in these areas. The time series of data covers the period from 1955 to the year 1997 and varies according to the region. This method was chosen based on the fact that in many cases in Greece the climatic data required to estimate the water balance are very limited. The main objective of calculating the equation of the water balance in these 73 regions of Greece is to estimate the difference (positive, negative, zero) between the need for water and the available amount of water. In times of drought, the water needs are particularly high and to such an extent that they are not covered by the available quantities of water. In Greece, there is a phenomenon of very frequent and prolonged periods of drought during which the available quantities of water are particularly low.
