Résumé
This paper describes and analyzes four advocacy initiatives organized by EWASH, a collation of almost 30 organizations working on human rights to water and sanitation, and other NGOs. The initiatives focus on empowering young Palestinians to advocate for water rights in the West Bank and Gaza, also developing a Palestinian environmental program at the higher education level.

The paper examines the historical context of exploitation by the Israeli government, analysis of political agreements, the steps that have been taken by EWASH and local Palestinian organization to advocate for water rights, the relevant policies and political actors, and the advocacy strategy and tactics used.

The concluding sections present an evaluation of the effectiveness of the advocates’ tactics as well as draw lessons from my experience working on a joint project with EWASH in 2009. The primary methods for the collection of information and data were the analysis of documents, videos, interviewing of local Palestinian coordinators, and reflection on my experience working with LifeSource, one of EWASH’s members.
