Résumé
The study presented in this paper is a case study that highlights factors that empower a marginalized community towards change. The study focused on four separate clusters of the Maasai communities living in Narok District, Kenya, and who were at the time of the study transitioning from nomadic pastoralists to sedentary mixed farming. The study describes factors that motivated change in a process that aimed at empowering them to transform their situation.

The findings of this study show that there are principles that, if well-integrated into a community process, could trigger people’s motivation to take responsibility towards sustainable change. The paper also makes policy and program recommendations that point out to the need for organizations to factor in those principles as they strategize support to communities that they work with.
