Résumé
The purpose of this work was to investigate the context of the dissemination of commercial seeds, especially transgenic seeds, and the dangers they pose for the continuity of the preservation of traditional or creole seeds in the Semi-arid region of Alagoas. Therefore, it was necessary to understand the historical context of the emergence of commercial seeds, pesticides, the emergence of Community Seed Banks and their importance for peasant communities. This work had a field research carried out in the Quixabeira community, located in the municipality of Água Branca/AL. The community is a symbol of resistance, of cooperative organization and has a history of struggle to preserve native seeds, producing sustainable agriculture geared towards coexistence with the semiarid region. This research enabled a critical reflection on the contradictions that permeate around the globalization of agriculture that worked as a means for the expansion of capital in the process of speculative valorization in the countryside.
