Résumé
Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is an oilseed plant of great economic value in Brazil, where the semiarid region of the Brazilian Northeast has favorable soil and climatic conditions for the cultivation of this species, however, as much as the culture develops well in low water resources, the scarcity of water and the poor distribution of rainfall may not adequately meet the water needs of crops, leading to morphophysiological disturbances and consequent losses in plant production. Therefore, the intercropping of cultures is one of the most common practices used to optimize environmental resources, increasing the productivity and yield of crops. Thus, the objective of the research was to evaluate the agronomic and physiological performance of sesame varieties in a system intercropped with cotton, beans, sorghum, corn and peanuts. The work was carried out under field conditions, at the Titara Agroecological Site in the municipality of Remígio Paraíba. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks (DBC), with a 2 x 6 factorial scheme, corresponding to 2 sesame varieties (BRS Morena and BRS Anahí) in combination with 6 intercropping (single crop (control), cowpea Carioquinha, cotton lineage CNPA MT 2009 – 152, corn BRS Caimbé, sorghum BRS Ponta Negra, and peanut BR1), resulting in 12 treatments, with 3 replications, totaling 36 plots. The agronomic variables (vegetative growth and production) and physiological variables (chlorophyll index, fluorescence and gas exchange) of the sesame varieties were evaluated ; the production of cultures intercropped with sesame was also evaluated. The sesame varieties are influenced by intercropping for growth parameters, where single cultivation favors better vegetative development and intercropping with corn harms the growth of sesame plants ; The physiology of sesame varieties is affected by the intercropping systems used ; The intercropping between sesame and cowpea varieties influences the increase of photosynthetic rates and photochemical efficiency. On the other hand, intercropping with sorghum harms the physiology of sesame varieties ; Intercropping with cowpea favors an increase in sesame production.
