Résumé
Water is an essential natural resource for sustaining life, and its quality is related to several processes that occur in the hydrographic basin. Rain, through surface runoff and combined with anthropic activities in the basin, promote water erosion, transporting tons of sediment into the reservoirs that are used for public supply, causing water deterioration due to the change in physical and chemical parameters and biological water. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of precipitation and erosivity on water quality in public supply reservoirs in the semiarid region of Paraíba State, Northeastern Brazil. The study area corresponds to the Paraíba portion of the Piancó-Piranhas-Açu river basin (BHRPPA-PB). In summary, the methodological procedures used were : consistency analysis of rainfall data, calculation of the Rainfall Erosivity Index (EI30), simplified geomorphological characterization and the correlation of rainfall and erosivity with water quality parameters in six springs. To assess the correlation, principal component analysis (PCA) was used as a multivariate statistical method. From the results, it was possible to observe that the first three main components (CP) explain at least 80% of the total data variation and presented eigenvalues greater than 1. CP1 was related to the dissolution of minerals from the soil, CP2 to the input sediments and CP3 the microbiological changes in water. Finally, it was possible to conclude that the precipitation and erosivity variables had a high degree of correlation with water quality parameters in all analyzed reservoirs.
