Résumé
The small-scale producers in the rural areas of Sudan are faced by the problems of financing their agricultural businesses and they lack the knowledge about the modern agriculture technologies. The overall objective of this study is to assess the impact of agricultural production subsidy on the livelihoods of female owners of the home farms in Alhigleig Village, Eastern Gezira State. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The sample was 110 women. 92 of them were engaged in goat raising, poultry production and vegetables production, about 37 women of this group were provided with production inputs from the RUFORUM project) targeted group(, and 55 of them received training courses in some agricultural technologies. The rest of the sample is the non-participants of the project and they constituted 18 women. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), discussed and interpreted using descriptive statistics and Chi- square test. The results of the study showed that, 100% of the respondents have benefited from the training courses, and all of them have produced vegetables by using the compost fertilizer prepared by them during the training course, in addition 72.9% of the women were very satisfied about their productivity. Further, the findings of the study indicated that 88.7% of the interviewed women have jointed the cooperative society established within the RUFORUM research program and then used by the women for purchasing their family needs and marketing their products. Chi-square test result revealed that, there was no significant difference in the monthly income and savings between the targeted group and the training recipients (P-value > 0.05). On the other hand, there was significant difference in the monthly income and savings, food diversity, healthcare, participation in social associations between the targeted group and non-participants and also between the training recipients and non-participants (P-value less than 0.05). The results ’also’ indicated that there was significant difference in the standard of living between the targeted group and non-participants (P-value less than 0.05). Therefore, the study recommended that ; the microfinance institutions in the area should provide small and mini credits to the home farms growers ; however extension services and training in small enterprise management are needed.
