Résumé
The aim of the present study is to undertake an aeropalynological study in Khartoum City, Sudan, in relation to meteorological parameters and their effect on pollinosis. Pollen morphological studies of the flowering plants of the study area and their taxonomic significance were also considered. Quantitative pollen morphological studies were investigated for a total number of 117 flowering plant species belonging to 98 genera, 43 families, 21 orders and 6 clades collected from the study area. These species were acetolysed according to the standard acetolysis method, stained with basic fucsin, examined with Light microscope (Optical Microscope B-192, binocular 1000x, LED) and photographed with digital camera (SONY 16.2 Mega Pixels). Airborne pollen grains for aeropalynological studies were investigated using Vertical Cylinder Spore Trap, on monthly basis for two consecutive years (2018- 2019). Total airborne pollen concentrations (TAPC) were correlated with six meteorological parameters. The numbers of patients with seasonal pollen allergy (pollinosis) were recorded from the Federal Ministry of Health (Khartoum) and the main pollen allergy causing plant taxa and the season of their high concentration were identified. Pollen grains morphology is very useful in plants identification and differentiate between the species belong to the same genera, and may support APG IV system of classification in most plants under study. A total number of 28 airborne pollen grains belonging to 15 families were recorded in 2018, whereas in 2019, 32 airborne pollen grains were reported. Anemophilous airborne pollen grains showed clear dominance in the pollen spectra, and Leguminosae showed the highest concentration followed by Poaceae and Amaranthaceae. The meteorological parameters are variances on the pollen concentrations, were significantly positive correlated by maximum temperature. In addition, there were substantial differences in these relationships in different seasons. Monthly surveys of allergy patients in the study area registered a total number of 2932 and 3249 patients in 2018 and 2019 respectively, and showed that August (autumn) the iiihighest witnessed number of patients. Data obtained from pollen morphological, aeropalynological and allergological investigations ; make it possible to establish the pollen allergy calendar and pollen spectra in Khartoum City. The present study will initiate future studied in various localities in Sudan, in an attempt to establish a comprehensive allergy calendar which may be useful for allergologists to identify an exact diagnosis
