This research aims at characterizing and exploring the organizational culture in the Sudanese family firms. The research investigates the unique characteristics of the Sudanese family firms through approaching the organizational culture of those firms. The main objectives of the research are to identify the different types of the Sudanese family firms according to varying degrees of family involvement in the business, assesses the orientation of the Sudanese family firms toward different organizational cultural typologies, and then examining the relationship between the diverse types of the family firms and the different typologies of the organizational culture. To achieve the research objectives, the organizational culture assessment instrument (OCAI) derived from the competing value framework is adopted which identifies four cultural typologies ; Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy culture. The research is exploratory and quantitative uses convenience and snowball sampling techniques. 103 Sudanese family firms agreed to participate in the study resulting in a response rate of 79.23% using OCAI questionnaire instrument. The independent variables are the types of family firm whether family or professionally managed, the dependent variables are the four typologies of the organizational culture. Descriptive analysis, K-mean cluster analysis and hierarchical regression are conducted to achieve the objectives of the research. The findings of the research indicate the heterogeneity and diversity of the Sudanese family firms based on the components of involvement ; Ownership, Management and Generational Succession. Two clusters of Sudanese family firms are identified ; (family owned and managed firms), and (family owned and professionally managed firms). Also, the findings reveal that the Sudanese family firms exhibit different organizational culture typologies according to different level of family involvement in the business and the type of the family firms. Regarding Clan culture, the findings reveal that both types of Sudanese family firms have significant orientation toward this culture, however the Sudanese family owned and managed firms have greater orientation toward Clan culture than professionally managed firms.
