Résumé
This study was based on the analysis of 49 records of imported pregnant Saanen goat and 344 records of their locally born daughters collected from the Goat Improvement Farm, located in Khartoum North. General linear model (GLM) of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS ver.11.5) was used in the data analysis. The study aimed to assess the effect of origin of dam birth, dam age at first kidding, kidding season and parity order on some productive and reproductive traits that included kids birth weight, kidding interval, days open, litter size, number of services per conception, lactation milk yield, daily milk yield and lactation length. The result indicated that the origin of dam’s birth positive affected significantly (p<0.05) male kid’s birth weight, days open, kidding interval, daily milk yield, lactation length, gestation length and litter size in favour of the exotically born dams. Similarly, the origin of birth positive affected significantly (p<0.05) female kid’s birth weight and number of services per conception, the exotically born dams needed significantly (p<0.05) higher number of services for conception, 1.9 versus 1.7 for the exotic and locally born dams, respectively. The kidding season exerted significant positive effect (p<0.05) on days open, kidding interval, number of services per conception, daily milk yield and lactation milk yield. The other traits : kid’s birth weight, litter size and gestation length were not affected by the kidding season .The dams age at first kidding significantly (p<0.05) positive affected days open, kidding interval, lactation milk yield, daily milk yield and gestation length, with no effect on the other studied traits .The parity order significantly (p<0.05) positive affected lactation milk yield, litter size and number of services per conception, with no effect on the other studied traits. The mean values obtained in the present study were 3.1 kg for kid’s birth weight, 1.6 for litter size, 1.8 for number of services per conception, 256 kg for lactation milk yield, 1.3 kg for daily milk yield, 204 days for lactation length, 145 days for gestation length, 303 days for kidding interval and 174 days for days open. The results obtained authenticated that exotically born dams showed better reproductive and productive traits than their locally born daughters. The comparatively lower production and reproduction traits of the locally born daughters could be improve by improvement of housing and other related managerial practices for exotic dairy goat to maintain their potential milk supply.
