Résumé
This study analyzes the climatic characters of Jordan’s capital city, Amman. Based on the data received from Jordan Directorate of Meteorology, average annual temperature in Amman is 17.3 C. The minimum average temperature is seen in January (8 oC) whereas the maximum average temperature is seen in August (25,3 C). Annual amplitude is about 11 C. The annual average pressure is 924.9 mb and the direction of dominant winds is west. According to Bofor System, the winds in Amman are not forceful, namely they are weak in general. In Amman, the annual average precipitation is under 300 mm (260,7 mm) . The precipitation is mostly seen in winter (64%).When Amman’s climate data is applied on Köppen’s method, Amman is part of step climate. On the other hand, according to Thornthwaite and De Martonne climate classification, it is part of desert climate. Finally, from Erinc’s point of view, it is part of arid climate.According to this study done, Amman, on account of its characteristics of climate, ought to fall within a transition climate among steppe climate and desert climate. The effects of climate on the the physical and human environment in Amman, it is seen that the most influence is seen on the ratio of precipitation which causes drought. As a result of this, the main vegetation in Amman consists of step and desert plants. Regarding the effects of climate on human environment, the most important impact is seen on agriculture which doesn’t have diversity and fertility in production.
