Urban Development in Golden Triangle Zone in the Eastern Desert of Egypt Using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System

The study dealt with the urban development in the golden triangle area in the eastern desert of Egypt and extent of achieving this development in light of the presence of physical and human determinants that greatly affect the shape and direction of urban growth for the cities, that border the golden triangle area on its eastern and western sides, represented in(Safaga, Al-Qusayr, Qena, and Qift ), the importance of this study is due to the possibility of urban growth in the golden triangle area and the selection of optimal sites for the establishment of urban centers within the triangle area and in the desert hinter land of the cities that border it, with the aim of alleviating population pressure from the valley and the delta and towards the desert cities. Therefore, this study comes in five chapters, preceded by an introduction, and followed by the conclusion. Chapter one dealt with the physical components of urban development in the golden triangle area, this chapter dealt with the geological features of the study area and included the geological formations and structures and their impact on the morphology of the study area and its relationship to surface and ground water and its impact on the distribution of urban centers in the region and the identification of minerals and ores in it, followed by a study of the topographical characteristics in terms of heights and slopes direction, and its effect on the velocity of surface runoff, the geomorphological characteristics of the study area were also studied and divided into mountains, plains, plateaus and valleys. It also deals with climatic characteristics in terms of solar radiation, temperature, wind, humidity and rain, then he dealt with soil and its different types and clarifying the degree of permeability and salinity and its impact on surface run-off and the feeding of the underground reservoir and natural vegetation, in addition to all kids of water resources. Chapter two included the population characteristics of the golden triangle earea , studying the population in terms of population growth from 1986AD until 2021AD and looking at the growth in migration, it also dealt with the distribution of the population and its division into urban, rural and Bedouin populations, in addition to studying the population density of the golden triangle area. Chapter three included the origin and development of urban patterns in the golden triangle area, it dealt with the study of the historical establishment and the administrative division of the border cities of the golden triangle region from the eastern side, which includes the cities of Safaga and Al-Qusayr, and the western side, which includes the cities of Qena and Qift, in addition to the scattered urban communities in the desert hinter land of these cities, studying the stages of urban development for these cities during successive periods of time and defining the axes and directions 0f urban expansion, in addition to the distribution of urban centers in the golden triangle area, urbanization patterns and factors affecting it in the study area
