In managing the Emergency Nutrition that is currently affecting millions of children and currently putting close to 3 million children and Pregnant and Lactating women at risk, IRE will implement the following activities to support the emergency intervention. • Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP), • Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP), • Therapeutic Feeding Unit (SC/TFU) and - TSFP : The TSFP component will address the needs of moderately malnourished children aged 6-59 months, pregnant women who are in the third trimester, and lactating mothers with children less than 6 months old. Children who will be discharged as cured from the on-going OTP will be referred from the OTP and managed in the TSF program for two months period. Through this intervention, IRE will provide supplementary food for the target Woredas/camps until the next hot spot priority list is issued in February 2016. Islamic Relief will provide technical support to HEWs during their monthly screening and MAM monitoring. Islamic Relief will sign an agreement with Somali regional DPPC prior to the program start. A premix take home ration will be provided for each MAM beneficiary on a bi-weekly basis in accessible kebeles and monthly in difficult to reach kebeles. Islamic Relief will hire an SFP team to manage MAM beneficiaries and they will implement the program in collaboration with the Food Distribution Agents (FDAs) identified by the DPPC. The FDAs will be paid per diem for their participation during distribution of the rations. The SFP team will provide on the job training for the FDAs and support them on providing nutrition education to the community. Islamic Relief will increase the physical coverage of TSFP by decentralizing the distribution sites in the camps. Islamic Relief will provide the premixed supplementary food in plastic buckets with fitting lids for each beneficiary to avoid plastic bag disposal which contributes to environmental degradation. - OTP : Severely malnourished children without nutritional or medical complications will be treated with RUTF and routine medications according to the 2007 Ethiopian protocol for the management of severe acute malnutrition as out-patient on a weekly basis.
