Descriptif
IR Ethiopia aims to provide emergency WASH and cash transfer assistance for a period of 2 months to a total of up to 1398 (233 HH) internally displaced people in Meisso woreda, West Hararge, Oromia Region. IRE is fundraising to continue this assistance for 8 months where this grant is part of that contribution. The WASH intervention consists of daily water trucking activities, distribution of water treatment chemicals and the delivery of sanitation and hygiene education sessions. The Cash Transfer intervention consist of 233 IDPs receiving 1200 Ethiopian Birr (approx 31 GBP) per month for 2 consecutive months. Based on the initial needs assessment, IR Ethiopia found that cash transfers were the most effective, appropriate and quick way of ensuring the affected IDPs are able to access food and other essential items such as medicine, clothes and NFIs. Some of the households may even use it for plastic sheet purchase to cover the leaking shelter during rainy season. Based on current trends, we anticipate that the humanitarian needs of the affected population in Meisso is likely to increase over the coming weeks and months. Whilst project implementation for this 2 month emergency response is ongoing, IR Ethiopia will be exploring further funding opportunities to ensure that we are able to scale up or extend our activities should the need arise
