Pascalisation of Camel and Cow milk for export and top market

Ethiopie

Titre : Pascalisation of Camel and Cow milk for export and top market

Pays : Ethiopie

Dates : Start date : 1 March 2014 // End date : 21 July 2021

Identification projet : NL-KVK-27378529-PSI13ET24

Programme : Private Sector Investment programme (PSI)

Présentation
The establishment of a camel and cow dairy farm and of a milk collection system for (50) local smallholders and shepherds with the aim to process and sell 500,000 liters of camel and cow milk for both local and export markets in year 3 of the project. In Ethiopia, there is a significant, though relatively small, market demand for camel milk by two groups : local ethnics (mainly in Addis) and local health groups. At present, the milk is brought raw from the (far) country side, which bears high risks of freshness and hygiene. The project will be located in Debre Berhan where the partners will set up a nucleus farm (200 ha) with camels and cows. In addition, they will work with about fifty nomadic smallholders/shepherds. The applicant is a Kenyan company, established and run by a German expert. The local partner and the applicant together will set up a joint venture. The project aims to produce good quality, preserved camel and cow milk and sell it to local consumers and in the wider region (Somalia and Northern African countries). The project will be HALAL certified.
