Descriptif
The overall goal of the project is to improve community resilience, preparedness, food security and empower vulnerable pastoralist’s dropouts to lead a self-reliant life and reduce poverty while contributing to sustained agro-pastoralist economy. One of the key activities in the project is supporting irrigated agriculture through provision of farm inputs and capacity building. Over 10 farmer groups with a total of 900 members have formed, registered, trained and supported to engage in irrigated farming. The farmers use generator pumps to lift water from the River Daua into canals to irrigate crops. Over 72,000 litres of diesel were procured and distributed together with varieties of certified seeds to the 900 participating farmers. Through the collective group bargaining power and IRKs advocacy, each group is now making substantial savings in their respective group account governed through the well-written by-laws. Additional 2,000 farmers were supported to produce food and fodder for their livestock through UKAID match fund.
