Présentation
Mali has a large cattle industry mainly for beef production. The local meat industry is, however, not developed. Cattle form an important export product, live animals pass the border and the largest part on their own feet. Therefore, the quality of the beef is very low once the animal arrives at their destination. The partners will set up a joint venture to start a modern feedlot and slaughterhouse in Kayes with the aim of fattening and butchering cattle in Mali with Halal certification. The first quality meat will be packed and exported to Algeria and Senegal. The market is large and promising, as the competitors from Argentina and Brazil do not deliver the Halal certification. The impact on the Malian meat sector will be important as this way of processing and exporting meat is very innovative and adds value to the sector. The meat will be exported fresh which gives it a higher value compared to the Brazilian and Argentinean meat that is always send frozen.
