Emergency assistance to displaced people affected by the conflict in Eastern Ghouta

Syrie

Titre : Emergency assistance to displaced people affected by the conflict in Eastern Ghouta

Pays Syrie

Durée : FROM 11/01/2018 TO 02/28/2019

Présentation
Five years of siege and eight weeks of intense fighting and bombings have caused extensive destruction in most of the main villages of Ghouta. Water supply no longer works, forcing people to consume unsafe water, or to consume less water, with obvious consequences in terms of health and hygiene. TGH therefore identified the water sector as a priority.

This programme is a continuation of the actions started in May 2018 to assist displaced populations in Eastern Ghouta. The previous programme revealed significant needs for access to water in many areas that lacked drinking water sources and therefore depended on the water distributions conducted by the authorities and humanitarian agencies.

Water trucking services have been extended to underserved areas. The installation of water point maintenance equipment is also planned, in cooperation with the organisations also present in the area. TGH’s actions are complementary to the restoration activities developed by other actors in the region.
