Descriptif
This is a two (2) months project aimed to provide food relief to communities affected by drought in Wajir County. The project will targeted to support a total of 530 households (3,180 persons) in Junction location in Wajir South Sub-county. IRK will be working with a local organization (WASO Resource Development Agency) in implementation of the project as they have better understanding of the targeted area. The project will involve provision of food supplies to the targeted households, following the vulnerability criteria (as per IRK Emergency food distribution guidelines). With the continued drought situation as the county didn’t receive the long rains has led to increased malnutrition cases especially in children under 5 years and mothers who are pregnant and lactating, it is expected that the intervention will provide alternative food as food packs rich in carbohydrates, proteins, pulses and vegetable oils. The procurement and distribution of the essential live saving nutrition commodities will address the immediate food requirements of the pastoral communities. The project aims to support the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups of the society, mostly women ,children, persons with disability, pregnant and lactating mother, the sick and aged persons, who cannot walk long distances in search of food thus saving lives. Most of this target group are normally left home when the other household members have gone to look for water and pastures for their livestock.
