Descriptif
IRW- Somalia is proposing a livelihood project to support to two sectors - fishery and agriculture sectors in Bari and Karkar regions of Puntland. The goal of the proposed interventions is to improve livelihood and nutrition of the poor households in the target areas. The fisheries component will focus on promoting fisheries value chain in Gumbah, Handa, Kalule and Celdhidar villages. The agriculture intervention will focus on improving agricultural system for agro-pastoralist in Kalule, Celdhidar and Gumbah villages. The combined interventions of the two component will support a total 12,000 households (or 72,000 individuals, with an average of 6 people per HH). About 68% of the target beneficiary are food insecure female-headed households. The fisheries component will support 8,660 HHs (or 51, 960 individuals) in the target villages with the aim of increasing socioeconomic benefits for disadvantaged small-scale fishers who depend upon inshore resources for livelihood. The agricultural component will support 3,340 household (or 20,040 individuals) in Kalule, Celhidar and Gumbah villages. The component will aim to improve agricultural production and livelihood of the small-scale agro-pastoralist in the areas. The proposed project pays particular attention to the improvement of the living conditions of rural fishing and agricultural communities, including women and youth, as well as to food security and to the provision of affordable animal protein for human consumption and to the generation of income and employment in the target rural areas.The proposed intervention will build the coping capacity of households and community, increase food security and decrease malnutrition in the target areas. The objective is to build resilience and lay the foundation for medium to longer-term food economic development.
