Descriptif
The proposed project is integrated Wash and Livelihood interventions targeting drought affected agro-pastoral communities in the rural areas in Nugaal and Sanag region. The target beneficiaries are dependent on livestock rearing and few agricultural activities as major livelihood sources. The productivity of livelihood are dependent on water availability, which is not readily available due prolonged dry seasons and limited permanent water sources in the areas. Stress coping mechanisms of the communities are weak due to triple crises in Somalia : economic impact of the covid-19, Desert locust infestation and drought as Deyr rain was below the average and dry Jilaal season Jan to March 2021) worsened the food security situation. The proposed intervention is to rehabilitate Shallow wells, rehabilitate Barked, purchase and distribute farming inputs, Construct Fodder storage, Distribute fodder seeds to 100 HHS (Sudan grass, Alfalfa seed), Training of farmers on good Agriculture Practice (GAP), Training of Water Management Committee. The total direct beneficiaries will be 6,200 drought-affected families. About 70% of the beneficiaries will be female-headed households with difficulties of fetching water from long distance, exposing them to protection and safety concerns.
