Présentation
Women in Mali and Burkina Faso are facing recurrent incomes, food and nutritional insecurity because of lack of access and control of land, financial services, technical capacities, market access, quality inputs, year-round income opportunities and gender constraints. Women traditionally generate some income by selling Shea nuts or Shea butter on the local markets. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to women entrepreneurship by creating a secured market for their Shea and provide a market for two other oil crops, Sesame and Moringa, allowing them to become a year round entrepreneur.
Olvea Burkina Faso, the private company in the partnership, will buy the nuts and grains of the oil crops from the women cooperatives. The secured and long-term contracts will allow business planning of both the cooperatives and the private sector.
The project will invest in capacity building of 90 cooperatives to make them a strong partner in the value chain. This will result in more food and better nutrition for families, more feed for animals and more income.
