Description
The Arab Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF), Cairo, and Waag Society, Amsterdam, jointly propose the project “Decentralizing making : cross cultural knowledge exchange around art, media, technology”. The partnership aims to foster dialogue and exchange between Egypt and the Netherlands in the interplay of arts, media and technology as forms of cultural expression. The project’s overall objective is to support Egyptian youth to develop critical thinking and expression skills, as well as their self-confidence, in order for them to play a greater role in the shaping of their communities. The project activities are planned to : a) Support local cultural hubs outside of Cairo to facilitate inclusive spaces and programs that provide an alternative learning environment for marginalized youth ; b) Work with young Egyptians to develop their creative and analytical skills ; c) Provide emerging Egyptian artists with the resources necessary to produce more socially relevant and critical content. d) Create connections between Dutch and Egyptian artists and techies, as well as exchange expertise for capacity building between ADEF and WAAG. The project will be implemented through four main components : Residencies, Workshops, and Artists Support Grants
