Présentation
The agroforestry parkland systems of Burkina Faso are commonly described as historically resilient and highly dynamic socio-ecological systems characterized by complexity and adaptability. At the same time, the literature is dominated by a general agreement that tree density and regeneration has declined significantly in the Sahelian parklands since the droughts of the 1970s.
Considering that parklands is the main agricultural landscape in Burkina Faso, a country where up to 90 % of the population are directly dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods, the objective of this research project is to provide a consistent understanding of the sustainability of the parklands as a socio-ecological system in the face of changing economic, policy and climatic conditions.
