Présentation
There is an urgent need to analyze ecosystem services in the face of environmental changes in sub-Saharan Africa and how adaptive governance can contribute to resilient ecosystems that support human well-being.
We will test a set of tools for improved management of ecosystem services : a) multiple ecosystem service and trade-offs, b) non-linearity and regime shifts and c) institutions and governance. Empirical studies will be carried out in Biosphere Reserves in Kenya/Uganda, Madagascar and South Africa. The project will be coordinated by Prof. Thomas Elmqvist, Stockholm Resilience Centre, the research team consists of Dr. Maria Tengö, Dr. Reinette Biggs, SRC, Dr. Rosie Trevelyan, TBA, Dr. Belinda Reyers CSIR, South Africa, Dr. Marja Spierenburg, Vrije Universiteit. The project includes support for two PhD-students.
