Résumé
Zimbabwe is characterized by a resettled smallholder community. Using socio-economic analysis of agrarian reform beneficiaries, this study focused on the constraints on their performance under counter-productive conditions, namely, chaotic land redistribution ; poor government support ; a fast shrinking economy ; and the break-down of relations with the international community. It is argued that the politicization of agrarian reform in Zimbabwe and the absence of beneficiary support led to failure. The author therefore proposes a hybrid approach to agrarian reform, integrating state and market-driven reform.

Mots Clés : Agriculture and state — Zimbabwe. — Land reform — Economic policy — Social conditions.
