This project will fully rehabilitate the Burra irrigation scheme, and will carry out the following works : • repair/construction of canals, a gravity intake and hydraulic structures ; • purchase of related equipment ; • rehabilitation or construction of around 260 km of rural roads ; • resettlement of more than 2,500 households ; and • establishment of a credit scheme that will provide small farmers with inputs such as seeds, fertilizer and chemicals. The renovated system will supply reliable irrigation water for some 5,500 hectares. This will enable the production of high-value cash crops and subsequently boost living standards and raise food security.
