Titre : Supporting livelihoods recovery and stabilisation in the remote district of Ruy-e-Doab in Afghanistan

Pays : Afghanistan

Durée : 2010/2013

Contexte
This project aims at ensuring that the population of this district tackles issues that jeopardize their livelihood recovery such as production capacity of irrigated land, availability of agricultural and veterinary services, farming and cattle breeding practices and alternative income generating activities.

Objectifs
1. To help farmers be autonomous from food aid.
2. To assist farmers in the transition from subsistence activities to a situation where they can build on reserves and commercialise part of their production.

Impacts Increase in yield is visible while demonstration plots with improved seeds and farming techniques as well as training have been set-up.
A livestock health initiative is underway and by the end of the 36 months an estimated 90 870 inhabitants of the area, representing 17 146 families will directly be benefitting from the project.

Contribution Union européenne (UE) : € 1.35 million (90% of the total budget)
