This experiment used small regions in field and random complete design method by using ten soybean varieties (lines) as materials and designing three planting densities.The experiment researches on the growth and development of soybean varieties (lines) under different density in arid area ( including generational date,characters of leaf, characters of stem, the disciplinarian of dry matter accumulation and distribution, photosynthetic characters, carbon-nitrogen metabolism), and the effect of density on yield trial, furthermore the application of pluralistic statistic analysis on trial of soybean lines was studied in order to suppling reference on lines’trial in arid area.The results are as followed :(1) The density had a certain influence on generational date. With the increasing of density, the generational date had the little trend of extending.(2) The effect of density on characters of leaf was large.With the increasing of density, the different soybean varieties (lines)’leaf dry weight per plant, special leaf weight, leaf area per plant declined, but leaf area of population and leaf area index increased.The effect degree of density on each character of leaf was different among different soybean varieties(lines).(3) Density affected characters of stem significantly. With the increasing of density, the different soybean varieties (lines)’plant height, basal pod height had the trend of increasing, while stem node number, stem diameter, stem weight decreased. The variable analysis indicated that the difference of each stem trait among different density reached an obvious level ; Except of stem diameter, the difference of other traits among different soybean varieties(lines) was obvious.(4) Density had little effect on dry matter distribution in each organs, but affected dry matter accumulation larger. With the increasing of density, the different soybean varieties(lines)’dry matter accumulation per plant , stem weight, leaf weight, leaf stalk weight and legumen weight all decreased in R1 and R5 stage, the difference among density was obvious.(5) The different soybean varieties (lines) population’photosynthetical active radiation, radiation transmittance rate , chlorophyll content ,photosynthetic rate all decreased with the increasing of density , while intercepting of photosynthetically increased. From V3 to R7 photosynthetic rate changed as bimodal curve shape, the periods which peak value appeared were different among different soybean varieties (lines) .(6) The content of physiological index which had relation with carbon-nitrogen metabolism of different soybean varieties(lines)’leaf per plant had the trend of decreasing in R1 and R5 stage with the increasing density, and in R1 or R5 stage, each index (except inverse enzyme) all was positive or significantly positive correlated with yield per plant(r=0.43﹡~0.76**).(7) The different soybean varieties(lines)’pod number, seed number, weight of 100 seed all generally decreased while density increasing. The effect of density on yield varied from soybean varieties(lines), D122, Heinong43 had higher yield in low density, and Hefeng47, D113, Hefeng25 had higher yield in high density, while other varieties(lines) could gain higher yield in middle density.(8) The sort order which was according to the high or low of yields was different among soybean varieties(lines) in different density. Density had a certainly effect to the yield trial. In the e yield trial, by setting high, medium and low-density gradient, according to the yields performance of soybean lines for the test under different density, it had some instructional sense to select the lines whose yields performance were better in each density as fine lines with high -yields and stable- yields.(9) Correlation analysis showed the traits which were positive or significantly positive correlated with yields were different in different density, this traits can be used indirectly to evaluate yields ; The structure of principal component of different soybean varieties(lines)’agronomic and yield traits were same in different density, but the factors which affected yield were different in different density. and principal component analysis had a certain effect to assessment of different soybean varieties (lines)’yield traits ; the clustering results of different soybean varieties (lines) were different Under different densities , and the impact of selecting using cluster were different. The clustering results under low or high density was better, which was basically able to cluster similar soybean varieties (lines) together based on their agronomic and yield traits’differences, and the clustering results were more in line with the actual situation. But the results of cluster in middle density were sattered. So we selected soybean varieties(lines) by cluster method under low or high density in arid area.
