Résumé
The Ziziphus joazeiro Mart. is an endemic specie s from the caatinga which belongs to the Rhamnaceae family. Among the Brazilian species of the blind, it is the most known for its economical and medi cinal potential, especially in the semi- arid regions of the Brazil ian Northeast, where there is enormous distribution in all the states of the this r egion. Although it produces big quantities of the feasible seeds every year, it is known a little by its germinative process and its seeds behaviour during the stor age. The aims of this work consists of determining the morphological characteristics of the fruit and seeds and chemical characteristics of the fruit ; defining a simple and efficient methodology to accelerate and uniform the germination ; testing different ways of stor age, aiming to establ ish criterions to keep the germinative power of the seeds fo r a long time and identify the substrate which fits better to the development of the seedling. To the morphological characterization were determinated the leng th, width, weight and the external and internal morphology of the fruit, pits and se eds. It was still analized the kind of the germination and the external mo rphology of the seedling. T he initial viability of the seeds was calculated through the tetraz olium test. For the germination and the storage test, the experiments were conduct ed in nursery, with vegetal soil as the substrate and displayed to the luminosity of 80% ; it is observe d the porcentage of the germination and the seedling vigor, through the rates of the Germination Speed, aerial and root part. For the analysi s of the germinative capacity of the seeds submitted to different substrat es, it still determined the fresh and dry biomass of the seedling. The Z. joazeiro germination is epygeal. The germination happens of a slow and desuniforme way, due to the presence of the hard and resistant endocarp that involv es the seeds, making a barrier to the development of the seedling. The chemical scarification wi th sulfhuric acid for 20 and 30 minutes showed itself efficient to shorten and uniform the germination, due to the wear that happened in the endocarp, bec oming it more permeable by water and becoming easier the development of t he radicle. The mechanic sc arification with sandpaper showed efficient as well, speaking about reduc ing the necessary ti me to finish the germinative process, this result come s from the overcomi ng of the endocarp hardness created by the scarification. Alth ough the application of the Gibberellic acid hadn’t helped to the increasing of the germination porcentage and Speed Germination index, the usage of that purposed the increas ing of the seedling vigor since we could see the increasing of the aerial part and the l ength of roots. The work of the storage showed that the germi nation capacity of the species wasn’t affected by the time. Consider ing the different blinds of the storage, it noted that the storage in natural conditions and in silica-gel were more efficient to accelerate the germination. The analysis of the substr ates showed that the mixture – vegetal soil + vermiculite showed itself more ef ficient in all the ways tested when compared with the ot her treatments.
