Project description
The project promotes the long-term sustainable management of the Ustyurt landscape, focusing on the critically endangered saiga antelope. The project works to : 1) Improve ecological and social scientific understanding to inform the design, implementation, and monitoring of landscape management. 2) Help state agencies to develop and implement robust policies for the Ustyurt Plateau. 3) Develop the capacity of the state nature protection agencies for effective wildlife protection. 4) Empower local communities and other stakeholders to address their needs in ways that mitigate landscape degradation and species loss. 5) Build local constituency for the Ustyurt Plateau. 6) Develop the fundraising capacity and long-term funding base for the sustainable management of the Ustyurt Plateau and its species. This project is implemented in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
