Sustainable agricultural production through the promotion of conservation agriculture (Jordan)

Jordan

Code du projet : TCP/JOR/3201 (08/IX/JOR/207))

Pays : Jordan

Durée : Starting Date 9/2009 Ending Date : 8/2011

Donor  : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

Niveau et type de projet : National - Development

Funded : Programme de coopération technique (TCP)

Objectifs

The proposed project aims at introducing direct planting practices and cover/forage crops, increasing water use-efficiency under rainfed agriculture and building the capacity of the national agricultural research and extension for the promotion of conservation agriculture practices. This includes applied and participatory research and extension approaches.

At the end of the project conservation agriculture systems should be adapted to conditions in different parts of the country and applied by an increasing number of farmers. An expected positive side effect is a closer collaboration of stakeholders of the agricultural sector, primarily regional (Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands [ACSAD]) and national (the National Center for Agriculural Research and Extension [NCARE]) research institutes, farmers, and farm service providers.
