Mediterranean School on Mesoscale Meteorology

The Mediterranean School on Mesoscale Meteorology

- Lieu et date : Alghero Italy 5-9 juin 2006

- Présentation :

  • The purpose of the Mediterranean School on Mesoscale Meteorology (MSMM) is to make students and young scientists acquainted with a broad range of topics classified as Mesoscale Meteorology and to introduce recent advances on regional scale weather systems to people involved in operational weather forecast.
  • The Mediterranean School on Mesoscale Meteorology provides an opportunity for senior scientists to transmit their knowledge to younger generations involved both in scientific research and operational activities.
  • The Second Edition of the Mediterranean School on Mesoscale Meteorology (MSMM) is devoted to the study of phenomenology and theoretical-dynamical aspects of cyclones in the Mediterranean. Despite the Mediterranean area is generally known for its pleasant climate, it is often affected by intense and severe weather events, mostly linked to the presence of cyclones that either form over the Mediterranean itself (cyclogenesis is frequent in this area) or are strongly modified in their characteristics and life cycle after they enter the basin.
  • The MSMM second edition is aimed at exploring the main features of these Mediterranean phenomena, understanding their theoretical background and evaluating the potential for improved operational forecasts.
