Résumé

Fertilization success relies in the few days during which the reproductive phase occurs and is vulnerable to the prevailing climatic conditions during this time. Temperature is known to have an effect on pollen tube kinetics, but information is scarce on its effect on style performance. Here the effect of temperature on the reproductive phase has been evaluated in three experimental systems with an increasing degree of complexity : in vitro, in detached flowers in vivo, and in planta. Also the methodology has been set up to evaluate the effect of temperature on the genetic composition of the resulting offspring following mixed pollination. As in other plant species, temperature affects peach pollen germination in vitro and pollen tube kinetics in the style. The pistil, in turn, is also affected by temperature since high temperatures shorten stigmatic receptivity, accelerate obturator maturation -and hence pollen tube penetration in the ovary- but also speed up ovule degeneration. Thus, while pollen tube kinetics and pistil development are independently regulated, both processes accelerate at high temperature and slow down at low temperature
