Pays : Erythrée

N° projet  : ERI/SGP/OP4/Y3/CORE/2010/05

Durée : Start Date : 3/2010 End Date : 8/2011

Contexte
The project’s location is in Adi-tekelezan sub-region of Anseba Region, about 50 km north of Asmara. It is an area adjacent to the only remaining green belt area of the country known as Semenawi-Bahri, where majority of SGP projects are to be clustered for better impact purposes. Even though there is a shower during April-May due to Green Belt influence ; July to August is the main rainy season of the area. The project will address afforestation and soil and water conservation of degraded land through community based initiatives. Project duration is for 18 months. As the sub town of Adi-tekelezan is pacing toward urbanization, people tend to cut trees to meet their housing demands. This has left the area vulnerable to land degradation and firewood scarcity. From the study which was conducted in sub-region Adi-tekelezan, firewood is the principal source of energy for over 88%. An alternative source of energy for cooking in the area is animal dung.
