Solar energy to serve the protection of Karatau State Nature Reserve (Kazakhstan)

Kazakhstan

Titre : Solar energy to serve the protection of Karatau State Nature Reserve (Kazakhstan)

Pays : Kazakhstan

N° projet  : KAZ/SGP/OP5/Y3/STAR/CC/13/43

Durée : Start Date : 12/2013 End Date : 1/2015

Résumé du projet
Aim of the project is to demonstrate possibilities of Solar Energy use for distant objects in Nature Reserves and settlements on the example of Karatau State Nature Reserve. 8 security cordons are located on distant of 25-30 km from settlements and power transmission lines (PTL). It is too costly to build PTL and would affect unique biodiversity of the Reserve. Today gamekeepers and their families who live on cordons use the generators to get energy for home needs and for radio station charging.
Installation of the solar mini electric power station on the cordons of Karatau Nature Reserve expected to provide following results :
1) Become a demonstration sites for tourists and nearly located settlements on Alternative Energy use
2) Reduce greenhouse gas emissions on 10,4 t per year (thanks to not burning diesel in generators)
3) Financial benefit for the gamekeepers and their families and Karatau Nature Reserve for at least 400$ per each cordon per year.
4) Number of seminars and activities on project information dissemination and popularization of Aternative Energy Sources
