  • Alternative septic system designs suitable for crowded peri-urban conditions will be discussed during the seminar to provide better sanitation conditions in developing countries.
  • These involve the use of permeable, reactive-barrier technology to treat pathogens and nutrients, a novel approach using inexpensive, readily available construction materials.
  • Developing an alternative septic system or in situ wastewater system that attenuates microbial contamination is an important step in improving shallow groundwater quality in poor communities who depend on well water in developing countries.
