Descriptif
Goal of this thesis research was the inventory of sustainable agricultural development opportunities in the Mugrima community with an emphasis on irrigation. The research was a case study of one out of approximately 100 communities in the Zambezia province. Every community has its own specific development opportunities depending on the resources at hand. The first step was an overview of the land use rights in the community. Based on data available at the Cadastro (land registry) it seems that a part of the land is registered twice by Mugrima community members and “outsiders”. This occurs despite the official recognized land use rights of the Mugrima community. Outsiders are pursuing large areas of land for different commercial purposes. Large parts of the community are currently unused and Mugrima community members don’t have a plan to utilize the land use rights they officially own. This situation resulted in the request for a plan to utilize the land within the border of the Mugrima community and the quest for opportunities for development.
