Résumé
The Sustainable Development defined from the Brundtland Report like the "development that tries to cover the present necessities, without jeopardizing the availability of the future generations. But that in spite of its description during this meeting they do not specify a form of like obtaining it. In spite of this condition this form of development is had including firmly in the international agendas allowing that the slight knowledge of Sustainable Development and planning are redefined constantly. In last the two decades one of the productive activities with greater growth and expansion it was the culture of shrimp in ponds. This activity was favored by the general fall of the fishing production in the last decade and by the pressure for the production of food and obtaining of economic benefits derived from the consumption of the developed countries. The excessive growth of the aquaculture activity has not allowed the ecological conservation. The cases of the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Ecuador and the United States of America illustrate are clear. For 30 years an increasing interest in this subject has been glimpsing, where several countries have tried to find the tools to study the Sustainability of the operation of their resources. Between these are the Sustainable Development Indicators (IDS). Mexico is pioneering in the implementation of environmental indicators. The National Institute of Ecology initiated in 1993 the North American Environmental Information Taller, with the objective to generate a data base of information to report the state of the atmosphere at North America level (INE, 1998). This work evaluate the Sustainability of shrimp culture by the application of an Index of Sustainability which measures the viability of this activate calculated for the last two decades in Mexico. The Sustainability Index proposed is easy to calculate because uses official statistics, as well as surveys applied to all people involved in the activity which reinforce the official data. The form of calculation of each Indicator where their results are weighed, giving to each one in the way to do not influence in the result of the Index. Also the results or of the Indicators as of the Index, allows to see and to distinguish the weights of its values by graphics. Another aspect of this methodology is the elasticity of the Sustainability Index (can be enriched), each indicator has a proportional participation, reason why its application can be established in any region of the planet. Finally, it facilitates the establishment of balanced policies of social development with the regional economic perspective with a respect towards the atmosphere in which the shrimp culture companies settle down or establish.
