Tiitre : Sustainable Water Resources : Capacity Building in Education, Research, and Outreach (Ethiopia)

Country : Ethiopia

Sector : Education

Project Timeline : 12/15/2010 - 09/29/2015

Project description
Improve use and management of sustainable water resources to ensure food security, cleaner energy production, improved human and environmental health, advancement of educational opportunities and socio-economic development. Almost all major development problems in Ethiopia are water related : food insecurity, low agricultural productivity, recurrent droughts, disastrous flood, land degradation, poor health conditions, and low energy production. The problem is lack of sustainable development and management of Ethiopia’s water resources due in large part to the lack of institutional capacity and workforce expertise. The shortage of highly trained professionals in the water sector is a major bottleneck for the development and management of water resources in the nation. Outreach to stakeholders, focusing on watershed community, on professionals and practitioner and extension agents will engage community in problem identification and solving.

Total obligation : $2,874,806
