Water Infrastructure Support and Enhancement for Lebanon

Country : Liban

Sector : Water and Sanitation

Project Timeline : 09/30/2009 - 09/30/2015

Project description

The water sector in Lebanon suffers from a deficiency in water collection, supply, and treatment facilities in addition to inadequate water management practices. Most of the existing facilities and networks, notably for potable water, are old and poorly maintained.

USAID’s $26million Water Infrastructure Support and Enhancement for Lebanon (WISE-LEBANON) project will improve Lebanon’s capacity to manage water resources by providing technical assistance, infrastructure upgrades and management support. The long-term benefit from this assistance will expand the provision of a fundamental public service, and improve the health and quality of life for Lebanon’s citizens.

Through this project, USAID assists with : construction of new potable water networks and customer meters ; rehabilitation of pumping stations ; and capacity building for water establishments in capital investment and operations and management.

Total obligation : $22,661,800
