Project description
This initiative will facilitate dialogue among the Central Asian countries on future trans-boundary waterway management regimes. With funding from USAID, IFAS will : 1) Produce an analysis of the economic value of water in all countries of the Aral Sea basin, comprised of riparian states of the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers. 2) Identify the vulnerability of economic infrastructures of Aral Sea basin countries to the effects of climate change – i.e. hydrological variability – to inform current and future policies related to trans-boundary water management. 3) Disseminate the findings of the two analyses and incorporate them into the dialogue on water cooperation. This project will be implemented in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
