Objectif

To improve food and nutrition security and restore livelihoods for 4 050 drought-affected households in Djibouti and Somalia.

Activités

* Rehabilitated/constructed a total of four water points and five underground cisterns in Dikhil and Obock regions, Djibouti.
* Distributed 465 plastic containers (200 litres each) across Djibouti to enable 400 livestock-dependent households to stock water.
* Held four workshops on community management and household water treatment for 140 participants under the Djibouti component.
* Distributed 11.74 tonnes of fodder crop and grass seeds in Beletweyne and Dollow districts, Somalia as well as 2 800 pieces of sisal twine, 1 400 baling boxes, 2 600 sickles and four chuff cutters.
* Carried out a voucher scheme, enabling project beneficiaries in Somalia to hire tractor services for a total of 2 100 hours.
* Set up two grain stores and two fodder stores to prolong fodder storage for marketing and increased availability during the lean dry seasons of Somalia.
* Conducted fodder production and rural commercialization training courses under the Somalia component, involving 65 lead farmers, implementing partner staff, members of farmers’ organizations (FOs), traders and village leaders.
* Provided demonstration trainings on the use of chuff cutters across ten villages of Somalia to two FOs

Partenaires : Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock in charge of Halieutic Resources, Directorate of Rural Hydraulics, and regional and prefecture councils under the Djibouti component ; and relevant ministries, livestock professional associations and the NGOs Rainwater Association of Somalia, Community Empowerment and Development Action, Gender Education Empowerment and Leadership Organization, and Dollow Farmers’ Cooperative Society under the Somalia component.
